Umagang Kayganda

Hehe it looks like Smoked Fish (Tinapa) but you are wrong! That's none other that Tuyo! Yahoo! At long last! This is the moment I've been waiting for. Lol! I have been trying to find some of these dried fish here but they dont have it. They are really fuzzy when it comes to these kind of delicacy. They think its rotten and it stinks the whole house when you fry it. Gosh! But I don't care what will my husband will say about my food. I cleaned the kitchen, cook rice and prepare my food.

" hmmmm.. what will I try first?..." sigh

I finally decided to try the Tuyo. With Chili and vinegar. Boiled chinese cabbage and chopped tomatoes and onion and mixed Barrio Fiesta's ginisang bagoong.

Finally, its breakfast time! I served it with rice and a cup of coffee of course ( with coffeemate ). Ahhhh! This is so good! my very first filipino breakfast! I enjoyed it so much but I have to shut all the doors and eat my breakfast alone in the living room hehehe.. But who cares?

Anyway, here's my first "subo" for ate Liza! :

Cheers Ate Liz for sending me this wonderful Christmas treat hehe.. I really appreciate it that even if I am drooling to taste the tuyo i have to take a picture first so I can blog it. Again, thank you so much! You don't know how grateful I am. ( felt like I won Best Actress when I opened your Parcel!)

Smoked Mackerel with vegetable salad - Filipino Style

I have been dreaming lately that I came back to the Philippines and was eating my favorite dishes like Pinakbet and some dried fish (tuyo or daing), Smoked fish ( tinapa ). I am brought up to these filipino dishes when I was young that is why since I go overseas I was like having a nightmare with these foods. Its my wildest dream to taste some Pinoy delicacies like these. Filipino Breakfast

Here in UK, they don't like fish with head. Take a look at the illustration above, the smoked mackerel don't have head nor bones. Anyway, it doesn't matter to me. Well, thanks to Morrisons for selling these smoked fish thats totally taste as good as our very own Tinapa made out of bangus or Galunggong. I really love it! When I bought these, I can't wait till the next day to cook it. Dreaming of something I can partner with my smoked fish meal, I ended up boiling some Chinese or Nana Cabbage (Baguio Cabbage) and Vegetable salad which is a combination of bagong halubaybay, onion and chopped tomatoes. Add some chilies (siling-labuyo) as appetizer while eating it with plain jasmine rice. Yummy!

Honestly, this is the first time i'll eat smoked fish and I've enjoyed it very much. I can't wait for my next food shopping again and sneak to Fish area to get some more of these haha.

I miss Crispy Pata!

109_0462

I'm sure you know what this recipe called. Eherm! My very own version of Crispy Pata. Yes Crispy Pata is one of the popular Philippine Delicacy where you can order mostly In different Resto Bar. Crispy Pata is on top of my list whenever we eat out or whenever I'll be celebrating my birthday with my friends. I used to get Fiesta order which include Crispy Pata with cracklings side dish, Sinigang na Hipon or Bulalo, Rice, T-Bone Steak, Tempura, iced Tea, leche Plan and other dish included in the package.Sorry, I failed to remember some of it but I remember asking for Sisig or Chicharong bulaklak if me and my friends wants to stay longer with some bottle of San Mig Lights while singing in the centralized videoke.

Anyway, when Jamie first visited me in the Philippines, he is as thin as stickman. But I introduced him to Crispy Pata and Lechong manok. Since then, he never failed to ask for a whole crispy pata ( one big pork leg ) which he always eat by himself. He loves the dipping sauce of it. Made out of soy sauce, calamansi, red chilli pepper, chopped onion and black pepper! Hmmmm... yummy! Yesterday, Jamie did request the meal. I finally found a pork shank that I can use to make this meal. In fairness he liked it. he said,

" How can we afford to go back to UK"

I'm puzzled with him at first because I can't get what he wants to say. He repeat it once again and told me its because he feels like we're in the Philippines eating his favorite Crispy pata. He then told me afterwards that I can't always make the meal though the pork shank is really cheap at a price of 1.50 Pounds, he's scared he might get hi-blood or heart problem eating too much pork. As if! He didn't realize that when he's in the Philippines. Anyway, I'm just happy that I did this small request my hubby wants me to make for him. Its a little surprise but he's chuffed with it.

If you want to get to make this recipe, the procedure can be found in this LINK.

I'm the lucky person who always eat this meal every morning hehe and sometimes makes me feel sick and crave for filipino dish. So I've quickly used my laptop to search for something to cook. And found an interesting recipe called " Pork Kilawin". I didn't know there was 2 version of this meal but then again, I've prepared the ingredients thats available here and then started cooking it. Makes me feel I'm Ratatouie right now hehe... Lets get started! Heres the Recipe:

1 teaspoon salt
6 pcs chili (siling labuyo or Green Finger Pepper)
MSG

Pork Kilawin Cooking Instructions:
In a casserole, put pork skin/Meat in water and some salt.
Bring to a boil and simmer for 20 minutes or until the pork is tender and the skin is soft.
Remove pork skin from water.
Slice the pork skin into bite sized pieces while still hot.
Saute it till its Golden Brown
Place in a bowl and add vinegar, chili,
soy sauce and chopped, uncooked onions and tomatoes.
Serve immediately!
They usually served this recipe with beer in the Philippines. But since I'm really craving for some Filipino dish in my stomach, I ate it with rice hehe..Yummy! Oh by the way, Jamie said I'm the kitchen genius here.. Maybe because i'm always experimenting! Puro gulay kasi ang alam kong lutuin sa Pinas haha!
